Volunteer Opportunities

Unviversity of Illinois Extension provide practical, research-based informtion and programs to help individuals, families, farms, businesses, and communities in Illinois. Its mission in short, it to help the citizens of Illinois put knowledge to work. The contribution of volunteers in the following areas is essential to the achievement of this mission.

More than 200 volunteers, both youth and adults, contribute their time and talents to the Extension program in Greene County. Learn how you can help others with the knowledge and experiences gained from Extension.

Volunteer opportunities with our office include:

4-H Youth Program
4-H is a voluntary, informal educational program for boys and girls ages 5-18.

Extension Council
The Council serves as an advisory board to Extension staff in determining program efforts.

Master Gardeners
Greene County Master Gardeners complete an intensive horticulture course and then provide volunteer service back to their communties through educational activities including The Greene Thumb newsletter.

All volunteers working with youth are screened prior to undertaking assignments.
