Agriculture and Natural Resources

Strengthening resources

Our Agriculture & Natural Resources program thrived to meet the needs of agricultural producers, agribusiness people, landowners, gardeners, and others involved in using our natural resources.

Activities varied and included Agronomy Day '06, Summer Grazing School, Beef Performance Testing, Advances in Agricultural Drainage Seminar, Pond Management TeleNet, Gardening TeleNets, Farm Conservation Programs TeleNet, Greene County Acres newsletter, and many more.

The program reached both adults and youth as it included various livestock activities for youth including the 4-H Livestock Shows and Auction, Rate-of-Gain Contests, Livestock Judging Clinic and Contest, and Master Showmanship Contest.

Information and assistance on agriculture and natural resources were provided by Extension Educators, Master Gardeners, Distance Diagnostics through Digital Imaging System (DDDI), and office resources to 252 individual citizens including 82 people in horticulture.

The five University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners have helped improve the horticulture program. They helped plan a Plant Walk in the Athersville and Greenfield areas, answered questions from local gardeners, wrote articles for The Greene Thumb newsletter, and help plan the horticulture program.
