4-H Youth Development

Inspiring youth

It was an exciting year in 4-H in Greene County with many educational activities for youth, including some new ones. There were project workshops, 4-H Shows, 4-H Camp, Teen Leadership Conference, Teen Health Classes, and much more.

There were 195 members including 19 Cloverbuds (4-H for 5 to 7 year olds) in 13 community and special interest clubs. An additional 1,164 youth were reached through short-term groups including in-school food groups, Teen Health Classes, Teen Leadership Conference, and others.

4-H was marketed through National 4-H Week activities, a new office sign with the 4-H Clover, more news in local newspapers than ever before, a 4-H flag flying at the Extension Building, and more. 4-H was also featured more on the office's re-designed website with more information and links to other 4-H sites.

The number of 4-H members exhibiting their project work was up over last year as was the number of exhibits. They earned premiums, trophies, U.S. Savings Bonds, and some exhibited at the Illinois State Fair.

4-H members also completed community service collecting money, clothes, and other items for Hurricane Katine victims, sponsoring the Feather Fest to raise money to have a Relay for Life team and painting the fence behind the Extension Building.
