New Year Forms

New 4-H Year paperwork was distributed at Achievement Night and will be due back in to the Extension office by December 15.

Members who wish to be considered as Junior Leaders must have a CANTs form on file at the Extension office. Call Nancy to get your Jr. Leader's paperwork started soon.

Leaders, I will post your regular meeting dates and upcoming events in the newsletter, also. Please call with the dates.

Due to the fact that we must charge for 4-H project books this year, we are encouraging leaders to collect gently used (or never opened) books from members to redistribute to others taking those projects.

If you have no one to give the books to, please consider bringing the books to the Extension office for us to redistribute.

The individual member enrollment and re-enrollment forms includes a box to indicate payment of the $6 Program Fee or Request for Scholarship.

Payment or Scholarship form must accompany enrollment.

Club leaders, as well as members, must re-enroll each year. There is currently no program fee for adult volunteers.

We will again be insuring each 4-H member and volunteer with a blanket policy to cover all 4-H related, adult-supervised meetings, club meetings, activities, events, field trips, county shows, etc. (with the exception of snow-related events) for the entire 4-H year. There will be no need to take out special event insurance except for horse related events.

In order to apply for this insurance, all club and individual enrollments will be due by December 15, along with the club forms. New members may still enroll in your club until May 1, 2010 to be eligible to show at the 2010 county 4-H shows.

If your club is planning a fundraiser or field trip, please contact the Extension office with the type of event, date, times, etc., for insurance purposes.

Leaders, we need a copy of your drivers license and insurance card on file at the office.

Saline County 4-H Federation will meet on Monday, November 2 at 6pm at the Extension office.

We will be discussing community service projects (Shop with a Cop and the Red Cross Blood Drive) and fun winter activities (Federation bowling party and other ideas), putting together our Nursing Home gift bags and planning our Christmas party.

We hope to have a representative from each club at this meeting.

The Federation will be putting together Thanksgiving gift sacks for the Harrisburg Care Center residents and for residents of a group home at our next Federation meeting on November 2.

Items suggested for the gift sacks are: small lotions, chapsticks, individual tissue packets, small soaps, cheese crackers, peanut butter and cracker packets, socks, handkerchiefs, combs, sugar free snack-size candy bars, etc.

We are still needing donations for any of these items. Call the Extension office if you can donate.

It is time to begin thinking about your design for the 2010 4-H Handbook Cover Contest. We are asking for entries to be turned in tothe Extension office by 4:30 pm on Friday, January 29, 2010.

The entry rules for the contest are:

1. Submit original design on white paper only (8 1/2 X 11 in).

2. Leave 1-inch margins on all sides.

3. Use ONLY black ink or black marker.

4. Use the words "Saline County 4-H" and the year "2010" somewhere on your design.

5. Put your name on the front of your entry.

6. Entry should reflect 4-H in Saline County.

7. If you want to use a clover in your design, we request that you use the official 4-H emblem. Contact the Extension office and we will print out a 4-H Clover for your use.

8. One entry per 4-H member may be submitted.

9. Entries must be received by 4:30 pm on Friday, January 29, 2010. No Exceptions!

Please submit entries with your name, club, and age.

Remember, there is a monetary prize at Achievement Night for the winner.
