Fulton County Extension's Family Nutrition Program (FNP) partners with 34 agencies, classrooms, and coalitions to teach budgeting food dollars, saving money through meal planning, saving time by fixing quick and easy meals, keeping food safe to eat, feeding infants and children, and preparing nutritious snacks.
More than 2000 students in 22 classrooms and Headstart programs participated in FNP nutrition programs. In addition, 805 senior citizens participated in an average of 10 lessons each. FNP programs have proven successful. Research shows for every dollar invested in nutrition education, there is a projected health care cost savings of $8.82.
Other health education programs included Dining with Diabetes, Fiber in Your Diet, Dietary Fat, Gifts from the Kitchen, Cooking for One or Two, and the New Dietary Guidelines. Food Safety included Master Food Preserver training, a Pickle Workshop, food preservation questions and answers, and canner safety checks.
