Sports Nutrition

This Sports Nutrition project teaches fitness, nutrition, and how the body works. It explains the fallacy in some food myths and helps youth understand the relationship between food choices, proper exercise, and athletic skills. Ideas for a few high-energy snacks are included. Activities are great for small group learning and meeting outlines are like lesson plans.

Topics include:

· A training-table guide that lists foods by food group, major nutrients, and recommended serving sizes for teenage athletes.

· A guide on energy needs for high school athletes, including a section on the Food Guide Pyramid and how to adjust for the special needs of teen athletes. Also covers energy-packed meals and eating strategies.

· Helps young athletes understand the importance of fluid intake and the dangers of dehydration.

Instructional Materials:

Teacher's guide and four student manuals are available on loan basis only or for $10.00. Fill out the educational program request form to reserve or order materials.
