Many beef producers in the area are having problems getting enough hay to feed their cattle through the winter. There are some alternative feeds and feeding options that cattlemen may want to consider.

University of Illinois Extension is sponsoring a program to help deal with this issue on Thursday, January 31st at 6:30 p.m. in the Extension Building west of Benton. There is no fee, and any interested individual is welcome to attend.

Dave Seibert, University of Illinois Extension Animal Systems Educator from Peoria, will discuss Utilization of Co-Products, such as distillers dried grains, in Beef Cow Diets. Rebecca Atkinson, Professor of Animal Science at Southern Illinois University, will report about research she is conducting on forage options. A panel discussion/idea sharing session on feed sources will round out the evening.

Please call University of Illinois Extension at 439-3178 by January 28th to register for the program so that we can have an adequate number of materials available. If you need a reasonable accommodation to attend this meeting, please indicate when registering.
