Seventy-four heifers sold for an average of $1442 at the recent Illinois Heifer Development Program (IHDP) sale held at Farmers Livestock Market in Greenville. Eighteen buyers took home the offering of 10 consignors.
Brad Blackburn from Iuka was the volume buyer, taking home seven lots totaling 15 head. Callan Farms at Stonington had the highest selling lot, a pair of registered Angus that brought $1825 each. Melvin Sievers from Staunton was the buyer.
IHDP beef females are certified through an extensive health management program and are guaranteed pregnant to a high calving ease EDP sire. The program is sponsored by University of Illinois Extension and the Illinois Beef Association.
Potential buyers and/or consignors can get detailed information by contacting Tom Saxe, IHDP sale coordinator, at 618-627-2243.
Also note that Franklin County Extension will be offering a program on alternative feeds for Livestock the evening of January 31st. Frank Ireland from Dixon Springs and Dave Siebert, Extension Animal Systems Educator from Peoria, will be on the program. Mark your calendar and watch for additional details.
