Can you prevent the onset of diabetes and other diseases with what you do or do not eat? According to recent research, the answer is that maybe you can. To help you learn about the relationship between food consumption and chronic diseases, particularly diabetes, University of Illinois Extension is offering a program "Eating to Reduce Your Risk of Diabetes."
This program will be taught by Martha Winter, University of Illinois Nutrition and Wellness Educator on Thursday, December 13th at the Extension Building. The program will begin at 10:00 a.m.
Topics to be covered include types of diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. We will also discuss how following the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and My Pyramid may help reduce your risk for chronic diseases. We will also spend time talking about ways those who have diabetes can eat healthy to reduce risks for complications of diabetes.
This program is open to the public and anyone interested is encouraged to attend. If you need reasonable accommodations in order to participate in this program, contact the Franklin County Extension at 439-3178.
