A new website, developed by University of Illinois Extension, is being designed to help contractors pass the Illinois state licensing exam for septic system installation and maintenance.
"The exam is based mostly on Illinois code regulations. Even experienced contractors need to study the code in order to do well on the test," says Duane Friend, University of Illinois Extension natural resources educator.
The online study guide provides multiple-choice questions within specific code sections, such as mound and aerobic systems. A practice problem section allows users to perform calculations on sizing of septic tanks and drainage fields.
"Those preparing for the septic system licensing exam are encouraged to use the online study guide as an additional learning tool, along with studying the actual code," advises Friend. "And, it's probably most effective to thoroughly learn the code before trying the study guide. That way, the study guide will help reinforce your knowledge."
The online study guide can be found at: http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/septictanks/.
