The Spring Agronomy Tour at the University of Illinois Ewing Demonstration Center is set for Thursday, June 11, at 9 a.m.

"Tour dates are usually set in the winter to get on the calendar and avoid schedule conflicts," says Dennis Epplin, University of Illinois Extension crop systems educator. "Our goal is to have corn and soybeans well established by field day. Unfortunately, 2009 plantings have again been delayed by wet field conditions."

Even with the delays, there will be things to see and do at the field day. Carl Bradley, U of I Extension plant pathologist, will discuss crop disease management and the proper use of fungicides. Participants will also see the wheat variety trial as that crop approaches maturity.

This year marks the centennial observance for Ewing Field. The University of Illinois started research and demonstration work at Ewing in March of 1909. Plans are to have a new multi-purpose storage/educational building completed by field day.

The Ewing Demonstration Center is located approximately 12 miles northeast of Benton, Illinois. From Illinois Route 37, turn east on Ewing Road and watch for signs. If weather conditions are questionable, call 618-439-3178 before traveling to the field day.
