The new 4-H year is starting out great. You may have heard me mention at Achievement Night that we will be starting some new clubs called SPIN clubs (Special Interest Groups). If you have suggestions for SPIN clubs please let me know. We also need some adults that have a passion a special interest or hobby that would like to share their skills. Please contact me and we will work to follow up on these ideas. The State also has an initiative to form military clubs, so if you know someone that is active in the military and has children that would like to be in these clubs please let me know.
Several of the Food and Nutrition projects were combined into the new Cooking 301 book. New projects for this year are Power of Wind, Cooking 301 and Filmmaking (on-line only), newly revised books are in the project areas of Veterinary Science, Bicycles and Vegetable Gardening.
The Livestock and Horse Committees will be meeting soon to elect chairpersons and look at ways to improve the shows. The Horse Committee needs 3-4 new members that would be able to attend meetings and also help the day of the show. Please consider being on this committee.
The Franklin County Extension Office will be closed from December 24 to January 3 and will reopen January 4, 2010.

The Farm Service Agency makes loans to rural youths to establish and operate ag-related income-producing projects in connection with 4-H clubs, FFA and other agricultural groups. Projects must be planned and operated with the help of the organization advisor, produce sufficient income to repay the loan and provide the youth with practical business and educational experience. The maximum loan amount is $5000.
To find out more about the FSA Rural Youth loan program, contact your local county office to setup an appointment with a Loan Approval Official. You may also contact Cindy at 439-3178 and she will help you.
