Timber Harvesting

Illinois, due in large part to geologic and glacial history, is home to some of the most productive and valuable hardwood forests in the United States. Deep fertile soils, coupled with adequate growing-degree days and plentiful precipitation, provide the prerequisite medium for growing high value timber species such as eastern black walnut, white oaks, red oaks, hickories, black cherry, ash, sugar maple, silver maple, basswood, yellow-poplar, and other valuable hardwoods.
