Corn Harvest!

Harvest is approaching quickly. Look around and see if you can find some fields that are about ready to be harvested. What do they look like? What happens to corn before it is harvested? What happens to soybeans? Watch this blog in the coming weeks for more fun harvest investigating and activities.

Here is a corn project to get you going. Make a Corn Pin to wear.

Needed: corn husks, 1/2 brown pipe cleaner, yellow pony beads, medium size safety pins

1) Cut the brown pipe cleaner in half.

2) Bead the pipe cleaner with yellow pony beads. The number of beads will depend on the size of your safety pin.

3) Fold the corn husk in half and gather it at the fold. For more flexible corn husks wet them down then fold.

4) Attach the pipe cleaner to the corn husk at the fold. Trim off any excess pipe cleaner.

5) Use the pin to put the two sides of the corn husk together. If needed trim the corn husks.

6) Pin to your shirt and wear proudly!
