Smart Kits

SMART Kits (Skill Mastery Accomplished with Resources for Teaching) are available in five different project areas. These kits can be used to put on project workshops for a group, afterschool programs and library or park programs. Below are descriptions of the five different Smart Kits available.

Photography

The Photography SMART Kit will provide resources to teach youth (3-12 grades) about basic photography skills and camera operation. The Kit contains both consumable and non-consumable supplies and equipment such as cameras, film, and light bulbs.

Clothing

The Clothing & Textiles SMART Kits will provide resources to teach youth sewing skills for clothing and home décor. Items included in the kit include: irons, rotary cutters, threads, dressmaker rulers. Completed sewing projects can be used for service learning or community service.

Food & Nutrition

A grant through Pampered Chef made a Food and Nutrition SMART Kit a reality. This kit can be used to teach basic food preparation, safety, nutrition, and personal hygiene as it relates to food preparation to youth ages 6 to 19.

Teen Leadership

The purpose of this SMART Kit is to teach interpersonal and leadership skills to youth ages 6 to 19. Topics addressed include: Accepting Differences, Conflict Resolution, Social Skills, Cooperation, Communication, Planning/Organizing, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Decision Making, Teamwork, Leadership, Contributions to Group Effort, Marketable Skills.

Advanced Visual Arts

The Advanced Visual Arts SMART Kits will provide resources to teach youth (7-12 grades) about elements and principles of design. Completed visual arts projects can be used for service learning or community service. Items included in the kit include: ink, paints, brushes, graphite drawing kit, and more.
