Looking for a great hands on program? Wired for Power explores the invisible force field surrounding magnets and wires, basic DC electricity and AC wiring.
In the magnetism unit you build a small direct current electric motor with nothing more than a coil of wire and a magnet. See how magnetism and electricity work together to produce motion, sound, sparks and transforms energy.
In DC electricity you explore the basics of direct current circuits. Students will study the battery, the simple switch, conductors and insulators and identify series and parallel circuits. You can even take it a step further and study 3-way and 4-way switch applications. Learn how to identify and use various types of switches to perform circuit selection, 3-way and 4-way switching.
AC electrical wiring introduces alternating current electricity and AC wiring methods. Learn about house current, grounding and safe wiring methods. Students will have hands on experience, working safely with plugs, light switches, AC wires and common wiring tools.
An Extension staff member will be glad to come and introduce this program to your class/group.
