Chick It Out

This hands-on experience is designed to give youth the opportunity to hatch chicks in their own classroom. The developmental stages from the fertilized egg to the emergence of the chick from the shell are covered in this unit. State Learning Goals: Mathematics, biological/physical science, fine arts, language arts.

Don't let this title fowl you up!

Chick It Out is not just for the young children but for all age groups.

There is so much to learn in this program, more than just the basic developmental stages of a fertilized egg into the emergence of a chick. Genetics, disease, breeds, can lead the older youth into extraordinary research and even debates about animal rights and science.

All the equipment to complete this project is furnished to you free of charge. The Chick It Out kit includes the incubator, chicken eggs, egg turner, distilled water, feed and feeder, water container, and manuals.

An Extension staff member will come in on the day of the egg delivery and introduce the program to the youth and the rest of the month is up to you. The program can be adapted to be as simple or as complex as you choose

Call the Extension office and reserve the month you would like to have the Chick It Out program delivered to you.
