Tricks for More Fiber

We are always hearing about how a higher fiber diet is healthier for us. Here are 5 sure ways to put more fiber in your diet.

  1. Start buying whole grains. If you are used to buying white rice, pasta, and breads, switch them to brown and whole grain products.
  2. Use beans, lentils, or split peas at least once a week – two or three times is even better. Take the time to learn new and easy dishes that use these fiber-loaded gems. Slip cooked lentils into rice and pasta dishes.
  3. Keep plenty of fruit on hand for snacks and desserts. Let fruit take the place of treats that are void in fiber and much higher in calories. When possible, eat the skin of the fruit.
  4. Serve a salad every day. Having plenty of salad ingredients on hand helps ensure a fresh salad every day.
  5. Serve and eat baked potatoes with their skin.
