Master Gardener Meeting

Effingham County

Tuesday September 11th, 2007

Normalie Strickland called the meeting to order at 6:45 P.M. In attendance were Normalie, Leslie Niebrugge, Brenda Roedl and Rita Kemme with Purnima Shah joining later and resuming the calling of the rest of the meeting.

Minutes

Minutes of the meeting were reviewed and approved by Normalie and seconded by Leslie.

Financial

The financial report was separated by the years and the explanations given for the in/out items and for the cross monies, grant monies, and the Master Gardener monies. Leslie will attempt to put this in order, even though we don't actually handle the funds as that is handled through the Univ. of Illinois.

Old Business

Normalie gave a presentation to the Effingham Garden Club. An article appeared in the paper and it will be added to the newspaper article book.

Brenda's Notes

Cross: Roger Hunt came to the Cross on Sat. September the 8th and several of the Master Gardeners met with him to discuss the landscaping. Those attending were Lyetta Awalt, Betty Boos, Purnima Shah, Bea Grove, Dorothy Niebrugge, Leslie Niebrugge, Brenda Roedl, and Rita Kemme, along with a cross board member. Roger is a representative from Trees Forever, where we received the grant monies. More to come after he reviews pictures etc. on the landscaping.

Office Help: Always needed, although Tony Braasch has helped with some of the ID on the plant problems saving the time it would take to send in with the DDDI.

Jr. Master Gardeners: Next meeting will take place at the Lakeland Nursing Center to plan their gardens. Meet at the Nursing Center at 6:30 please. Rita will call nurseries to see if a Cornelian Cherry Dogwood would be available as a possible tree to plant.

September Projects: 5th Grade Fishing Days are September 17th, 18th, and 19th. Mon. Tues. and Wed. from 9 to 2. Lunch provided. Come morning, afternoon or all day. Lyetta will help all 3 days. Call Brenda if you can help.

New Business

Recycling: will take place on October 19th to the 22nd for the last one of the year at the health department. Newspaper recycling can always be taken to the depot in Teutopolis and East Side will have their paper recycling on October 5th. Junk mail, catalogs, and newspaper are all welcome at East Side.

Moonflowers: Brenda will bring to the office on Thursday if anyone is interested.

Trips: To Forrest Keeling nurseries and to Voss Pecans were discussed. Calls will be made to see what times would work.

Adjourn

Next meeting will start at 6:30 P.M. on October 9th, 2007. Meet in the parking lot of Lakeland Nursing Center and after viewing the areas we will come to the Extension office for the rest of the meeting. Normalie moved the meeting be adjourned and Rita seconded.
