Spring has sprung and the calls for plant and insect assistance are increasing. This is when you really learn how and why things work in mysterious ways. If you have and hour or more stop by and lend a hand. It will be greatly appreciated.

Brenda's Notes
The Cross - There is still about $400 available to spend on plantings for the Cross project. Possibilities include; creating a prairie planting in an area on the south side, if it is not used for parking, shrubs for the south side of the building to balance shrubs already planted on one side of the door. This would cost about $80. A butterfly garden was also suggested for around the Cross sign. Brenda will be applying for a grant that will enable us to construct a rain garden for swale area. It was found that the downspout drainage pipes were placed too shallow and drain into the garden. These will have to repositioned and dug deeper, before planting. An estimate for the walkway is pending from Harmon Concrete. The Effingham Garden Club would like to purchase a tree for the Cross with $100. They would like suggestions on the variety. It was agreed that a Dogwood would be appropriate.
Jr. Master Gardeners - Lakeland Nursing Home is interested in planting a garden close to the north side of the building. There is a drainage problem that will need to be resolved prior to planting. Volunteers interested in visiting the site to determine what to plant should contact Brenda. Walmart has donated numerous strawberry plants which Brenda would like to plant in half-barrels along the sidewalk, for the residents to enjoy and have easy access to. A local 4-H club has volunteered to help with planting.
April Projects – April has lots of projects scheduled, please call Brenda if you are able to help out. We will be planting out at the Cross and at Lakeland Nursing Home. Check the schedule for dates of the telenet sessions. A volunteer is needed to host the one on April 17. The annual plant sale is scheduled for April 28. Help is needed the day before to set up and Brenda will stay until 6:30 p.m. to accept plant material. Contact Brenda if you can help out. Conservation Days at Ballard will be Friday, April 13, and help is needed. The location may be changed to accommodate the cold weather.
Other – Office help is needed, and is a great way to get your hours in. Brenda is receiving approximately 6 to 8 calls requesting information, daily.
Adjournment
Lyetta moved for the meeting to be adjourned and Brenda seconded. Meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m. Next meeting will be May 8, 2007.
