Martha Speir is the County Extension Director for University of Illinois Extension in Edwards and Wabash counties. She has a bachelor's degree in home economics education from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in agriculture education from University of Illinois.
In her role as County Extension Director, Speir oversees Extension programming in four broad areas: nutrition, family and consumer sciences; community and economic development; agriculture and natural resources; and 4-H/youth development.
She is a member of the National Association of Consumer and Family Sciences, Illinois Association of Consumer and Family Sciences, National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, Illinois Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and Epsilon Sigma Phi. She is currently president of the Southern Region Illinois Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.
Speir's community activities include the Albion Ruritan Club, Wabash and Edwards Counties Chamber of Commerces, Edwards County Anti-Drug Coalition, Pork Day USA committee, Edwards County Farm Bureau Ag Literacy Council, All Our KIds Network, and the C.A.R.E.S. board. She serves on her church board, sings in the choir, and is an active member of her church women's society. She also plays alto saxophone for the Hosanna Band.
