Traditional 4-H Clubs
There are more than 400 youth in 20 community clubs throughout DuPage County. Clearly 4-H is not just for rural youth. With over 150 projects areas to choose from, the 4-H club experience gives boys and girls ages 8-18 an opportunity to explore topics of interest, make new friends, develop leadership and life skills, and contribute through community service. 4-H'ers also have the opportunity to partake in events on the county, state, national, and even international levels.
Learning Enrichment and Out of School Programming
Extension 4-H and youth development programs can also be found in schools, neighborhood resources centers, youth groups, park districts, and daycare centers. Hands-on educational experiences are available in a variety of formats including: after school programs, camps, workshops, special interest groups, kits for loan, curriculums, and more.
Professional Development for those Working with Youth
As a provider of continuing professional development units, Extension offers a variety of trainings for those working with youth. Topics include: Social and emotional development, bullying, character education, diversity education, incubation & embryology, science careers, financial education for high school students, and more.
Local Issues Programming
In collaboration with local coalitions, governmental agencies, and private partners, Extension youth development brings the knowledge of the University to DuPage County to address important youth issues such as social and emotional development, childhood obesity, as well as character and diversity education.
Volunteer Development
Volunteers are critical to Extension youth programming. Extension staff provide training and support to more than 300 volunteers who contribute thousands of hours each year to actively support both the traditional 4-H program and learning enrichment activities in DuPage County.
