- Crumble cooked bacon and stuffed olives to your potato salad. It's, oh, so good
- To give potato salad zip, stir in prepared horseradish, grated Parmesan cheese and a few drops of hot pepper sauce. OR just add the horseradish.
- Whenever you need fresh minced onion in a recipe, use your cabbage grater. It also works great on hard-boiled eggs for egg salad or potato salad.
- Stir in a teaspoon or more of crab boil spices (those normally used to cook crab or shrimp) to the boiling water when cooking potatoes for salad. They absorb the spices and give the potato salad a tangy "New Orleans" flavor.

How Safe Is Bottled Water?
According to a report from the Natural Resources Defense Council, an environ-mental group, as much as 40% of bottled water is nothing more than treated tap water. There are several brands of bottled water that use municipal water supplies, among them, Aquafina. However, bottling plants are not required by law to disclose the source of their water. The FDA only regulates bottled water sold for interstate distribution, around 30-40% of the water sold in the U.S. The NRDC tested 103 brands of bottled water and found one-third contained significant contamination. It is best to stick to major brands from a company belonging to the International Bottled Water Association (www.bottledwater.org: click "What is IBWA," then on "Brand List.") Purchase bottled water from a store that sells a lot of it, so their supplies are replenished frequently. Store it in a cool place. If you want to use your own tap water, run the water for 20 seconds in the morning to clear out any chemicals that may have been leached from pipes overnight. Buy water bottles meant for reuse made of hard plastic (such as polycarbonate) with a number 7 on the bottom; these can be put in the dishwasher to clean them.
