| The Illinois Pesticide Act requires farmers and other individuals to become certified or renew their previous license as private pesticide applicators in order to purchase and use restricted use pesticides (RUPS) on property they own or control. These products will clearly state the words "Restricted Use Pesticide" on the label.
You must pass a closed-book, 50 question examination administered by representatives of the Illinois Department of Agriculture to become certified. Once passed, a three-year certification will be issued upon receipt of a $20 licensing fee, in addtion to the $30 fee charged for the training session. University of Illinois Extension-DeKalb County is offereing a training session to help you prepare for the examination. It is highly recommended that you obtain a current training manual and workbook from the DeKalb County Extension office prior to the training session. Use the manual as a reference to complete the workbook before attending the clinic. This will assure you are properly prepared for the examination. The training manual ($10) and the workbook ($2) are available at the DeKalb County Extenstion Office. Online registration at the DeKalb County Extension website is available for credit card users.
