| For a person with diabetes, selecting and preparing healthy foods and meals can be a challenge. Cooking with Diabetes is a three-part series designed to help individuals and families implement a diabetic meal plan. During the workshop, meal planning, nutritious food preparation, and strategies for controlling carbohydrates will be emphasized.
This workshop will have class members in the kitchen actually planning and preparing a full meal at each session. Each meal session will include tips for managing diabetes, steps for counting and controlling total carbohydrates, how to reduce fat and sodium, recipes using artificial sweeteners, and how to season with herbs and spices.
Sponsored by University of Illinois Extension, Lee County, Cooking with Diabetes will meet every Thursday for three weeks beginning on October 29th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Loveland Community Building in Dixon.
The workshop fee for all 3 sessions is $50 per person/$75 per couple and covers the cost of the meal each week, recipe book and informational materials. Class size for this workshop will be limited. Pre-registration is encouraged. To register online, visit http://lee.extension.uiuc.edu or call the office at (815) 857-3525.
