Karen Meyer

Extension Unit Educator, Science and Technology

Karen Meyer has joined Extension from Missouri where she taught high school mathematics. She also developed the curriculum for, and taught the Ladue School District's basic and advanced computer applications courses. In 2004, she received the Emerson Award for Excellence in Classroom Teaching, a state award that recognizes one teacher from each school district for his or her contributions and achievements. Karen earned her bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Valparaiso University and her M.Ed.in Counseling from the University of Missouri.

Karen is currently involved with offering professional development workshops to elementary and middle schools throughout Cook County. The workshops have been offered at the school and district level as well as in the Extension offices. She has worked with over 500 teachers in the last two years, impacting over 15,000 students. The goal for these workshops is to make math enjoyable as well as giving teachers materials that they will be able to use immediately.

Practical Math Solutions for Your Classroom and CPDU Credits

University of Illinois Extension in Cook County offers professional development in science and mathematics, with the aim of enhancing the delivery of instruction in mathematics and the sciences.

These series of math workshops are designed for teachers in elementary or middle schools. Teachers and schools are finding this program to be a very economical professional development opportunity as well as a way to receive CPDU credits . The classes can be offered at one of our offices or we can bring them to you. Each workshop can be modified to fit the needs and times for your school.
