Southeast Communities Strategic Plan - “Vision to Action”

Over the past 18 months, many leaders gathered to discuss the opportunities as well as challenges that the southeast communities face. Based on these discussions there has been "a call to action" to strengthen our communities through a shared vision and action plan. A community strategic plan will be an excellent tool for pointing these communities in the direction of economic and community empowerment. These leaders decided that the first action step in the process of developing a strategic plan is to form a steering committee. Following is the position description for committee membership.

Steering Committee Membership The steering committee will oversee the strategic plan process. This committee consists of individuals that have the trust and respect of others in the community as key leaders and are committed to the process of implementing a strategic plan for these targeted communities.

Members of the committee will fulfill the following requirements and activities:

1. Live and/or work in one of the following Chicago communities – Chatham, Burnside, Greater Grand Crossing, Avalon Park, Roseland, or Calumet Heights.

2. Available for a minimum commitment of 12 months and 5 to 15 hours per month.

3. Provide leadership in identifying resources and financial support for the implementation of the strategic plan.

Current Actions The steering committee meets monthly to plan their goals and vision for action to support the implementation of the strategic plan. When resources have been identified and a management team put in place the implementation of the strategic plan will take place. It is the goal of the advisory committee to start the strategic plan process in 2006-07.
