Below are some home safety tips to make sure your living space is safe. Take a look around your house. If you find any hazards (dangers), get them fixed as soon as possible.
Be sure not to overload electric outlets with lots of plugs.
Check to make sure that electric cords in good condition.
Electric cords should not run under rugs, furniture legs or near hot appliances.
Family members in your house should carry appliances by the handle, not by the cord.
Check to make sure you have a fire extinguisher in your house or apartment.
Heaters, toasters, and light-bulbs should not be close to things that can burn.
Safety caps should be placed in electrical outlets if small children live in the house.
Small appliances like toasters, heaters and coffee makers should be turned off or unplugged when family members leave the home.
Check the batteries in the fire extinguisher and carbon monoxide detector in your home. Be sure these are working properly.
