Online high school diploma scams
Sunday, November 8, 2009, Chicago Tribune Newspaper [Money & Real Estate section]
By Janice Podsada
For a full list of accredited post-secondary schools compiled by the U.S. Department of Education, visit www.ope.ed.gov/accreditation
Getting schooled:
Many online diplomas are scams. It's often not until diploma holders re-enter the work force that they found out they have been had.
With a scarcity of jobs, many people are trying to improve their skills or education. But several state residents have been duped out of hundreds of dollars by online schools that are not accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.
Schools mentioned:
Belfordhighschool.com
Belforduniversity.org
Jeffersonhighschoolonline.com
Vencerhighschoolonline.com
Beware of degree programs that require very little work or that issue diplomas based on "life experience," and prices are based on completed degree rather than per credit hour...
Also, be caution of the phrase "quick and easy," remember if it is too good to be true, it most likely IS NOT true.

Also the New University of the People, founded by an Israeli entrepreneur, provides tuition-free bachelor level degress through what it calls "peer-to-peer teaching." I am not familiar with this program and will do more research.
