Fall 2007

We're Off!!

Buckle your seat belts; it's going to be a great ride! Geri and I are planning activities that we hope will energize your clubs, expand leader capability and provide a great deal of enjoyment and learning for all involved in 4-H.

The past year got us started at looking at new things. We will offer more workshops. We would like to increase our member's participation in State and National activities so that the 4-H experience can be maximized. We can all be proud of the recognition the clubs and leaders are receiving, locally and at the State level (more inside).

We receive a great deal of information about different opportunities for our members that are wonderful opportunities for them expand their horizons, or network with individuals who might be helpful to them as they matriculate.

Did you know that there are now Collegiate 4-H clubs? Isn't it wonderful that freshmen beginning what would normally be a totally foreign environment now has a group with which they can immediately identify and gain much needed support during those initial weeks/months in "a different world."

Please take the time to read through this publication carefully. 4-H is changing to meet current needs, and there are many changes of which you must be aware.

"Don't spend your days stringing and tuning your instrument, start making music right now."

South Suburban 4-H News

The third class of the Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame inductees were recognized in August during the 4-H Family Picnic at the Illinois State Fair. The Illinois 4-H Foundation established the statewide Hall of Fame in 2005 to honor and celebrate extraordinary 4-H alumni, volunteers, and former 4-H staff. Nominations are made by University of Illinois Extension staff.

Carolyn Funk (Homewood), a 19 year club leader, member of the 4-H Association and the Cook County 4-H Foundation, received a commemorative medallion and will be added to the virtual 4-H Hall of Fame listing atwww.4-HFoundation.uiuc.edu.
