Strengthening Families/Creating Healthy Lifestyles
· County Home Extension Association members celebrated their 60th year as an organization. They received trainings presented by Extension Educators related to Schemes,Scams & Flim Flams, Holiday Safety, Forgiveness-An Important Gift to Yourself, Food & Fitness, Ground Covers, & Retirement Realities.
· The Family Nutrition Program provided the following programs to Headstart and preschool children: The Importance of Breakfast; Healthy Halloween/Safety; Germbusters (hand washing); Tasty Master Mixes; and My Pyramid.
· Food Pantry. More than 400 adults receive newsletters, recipes and fact sheets which are passed out to those who came in to get food.
· Clay County WIC families received programs and information on Water; Hand Washing; Cool Cooking; Importance of Breakfast; Healthy Halloween Safety; Healthy Holiday Eating; Tasty Master Mixes; Food Budgeting; Feeding Young Children; and Grilling/Food Safety.
· 1000 adults received monthly nutrition newsletters.
· Clay County Walk Day was held in Clay County on May 1, 2007 at Charley Brown Park. Participants included Clay County grades 1-3 from Louisville Elementary and Clay City Elementary schools.
· Meals in the Fields. This program was done for local area farmers. Bags were stuffed with information on farm safety, health issues, machine cost summaries and healthy recipes. A healthy snack and drink were also provided.
· FNP at Appleknocker. A "MyPyramid Broom Hockey" game was set up at the annual Appleknocker science fair in Flora in September. Kids and adults had a chance to learn about 4-H, and learn about the new pyramid in a fun and exciting way.
