Three students from Illinois are state award winners in the 2009 National Radon Poster Contest. The state winners include Ryan Smith, 7th grade, Hickory Ridge School (home school) of Albion, IL, Ashley Lakin, 8th grade, Brownstown Junior/Senior High School, Brownstown, IL ;and Keli Atwood, 8th grade, Brownstown Junior/Senior High School, Brownstown. These students were also the regional winners along with Jessica Wehrle, an 8th grade student at Brownstown Junior/Senior High School in Brownstown. Their teachers are Mrs. Felicia Smith, of the Hickory Ridge School and Mrs. Rita Wakefield at Brownstown Junior/Senior High School in Brownstown. As regional winners, Lakin, Atwood and Wehrle attended the Radon Awards ceremony in Springfield at the American Lung Association of Illinois. They were each awarded 2- $50 savings bonds from the IL Emergency Management Agency Radon Department and the American Lung Association of Illinois. State award winners: Smith, Lakin, and Atwood each received $100 savings bonds from the IL Emergency Management Agency Radon Department and the American Lung Association of Illinois
