Each year as November rolls around, hopefully, we are reminded that this is a time for giving thanks! Volunteers are the backbone of our Extension organization. Without them we could not accomplish the many life changing opportunities we provide. We all need to recognize the things people do for us and thank them before someone reminds us to say "thank you."
We are moving into a season that lends many opportunities to show how much you appreciate others. Just taking time to visit or call someone means so much. This is perfect time for 4-H clubs to pull together for a community service activity. These projects build self-esteem and teamwork. Several 4-H clubs still provide Christmas baskets or select from the angel trees in their communities. Learning to give back can be very exciting!
Plans are in the works for a photography workshop on November 12 at 4:30 p.m. There will be a $5 charge to cover the cost of supplies. The basics of photography will be covered as well as tips to taking better pictures. Preregistration and payment are required and should be completed by November 5.
We are also working on plans for the annual Christmas Crafts Workshop. This year it will be held at the Extension office on Saturday morning December 5, 2009 from 8:30—11:00 a.m. There will be a $10 fee to cover the cost of supplies. Preregistration and payment are required and should be completed by November 25.
4-H is an excellent opportunity to meet new friends and expand horizons. It is one of the few organizations that encourages family time. Together, everyone in the family can go to one meeting and belong to one group. In most cases, 4-H clubs meet only once a month and many take part of the summer off. There is no fee to join or dues to pay. The only expense is the cost of the projects the children make and keep. Please share this information with families who might be interested in this fun filled learning experience. For more information please contact our office at 217/287-7246.
