Dave Shiley is the Natural Resources Management Educator at the Champaign Extension Center. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, majoring in forestry-outdoor recreation resource management. His masters research focused on a socio-economic analysis of recreational users at Rend Lake in southern Illinois. Currently he is pursuing a doctoral degree in natural resources-wildlife ecology at the University of Illinois.
Dave began his career with the University of Illinois Extension in 1982 as the Camp Manager/Program Director at 4-H Memorial Camp, near Monticello. Since 1992, he has served in his current position at the Champaign Extension Center, providing natural resources management programming and support for 21 counties in East Central Illinois.
In his current role as Extension Educator, he assists counties in East-central Illinois identify natural resource issues and develops strategies for educating the public about the issues. Some of the issue areas Shiley has focused on during the past ten years include water quality, wildlife management, forest management, soil conservation, and youth environmental education.
