Advanced Training: Tree Identification
Do you have trouble telling a white oad from a burr oak? Or maybe you really can't tell if it's a maple or an oak? Then the Advanced Training in Tree I.D. class may be for you.
This class involves six sessions of classroom and field instruction with an optional review session. All sessions are held on Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept 5, 19, 26, Oct 3, 10, 17 (optional review) and October 24 (open book quiz). Classroom sessions are held at UI Extension Champaign County auditorium with field instruction at area parks and on campus.
The 27-32 hours of instruction count toward annual continuing education requirement. You will discover over 70 ornamental and native trees with instructor Sandy Mason and Master Gardener program coordinator Karyn Traum.
Registration is limited to Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists. To receive a completion of advanced training you will be expected to attend all six class periods and successfully complete the quiz. Please note that all class periods will involve walking to observe trees in the field.
Register today! Class size limited to 25 students. Cost of the class is $75, payable to the UI Extension Champaign County and includes binder, plenty of handouts to help in identifying trees, and a hand lens for seeing fine details of buds and twigs.
