Food Stamp Nutrition Education (FSNE) Programs (funded with Food Stamp Administrative funds from the Food & Consumer Service of the U. S. Department of Agriculture) helps families and individuals on a limited income learn practical skills to:
Spend food dollars wisely so they always have food for their family
Improve safety practices while shopping, cooking, and storing food
Plan, prepare, and eat nutritious meals and snacks
Have an active lifestyle to get/remain healthy
Small group classes are taught by paraprofessionals using a research-based curriculum and hands-on activities. All materials can be seen on the Wellness Ways link in this section.
FSNE specializes in helping people understand why and how to make changes in their dietary practices. Our programs include food demonstrations, simple cooking activities, discussions, games, and recipes. Programs are available in many locations, including:
Champaign County's Family and Community Resource Center (formerly Dept. of Human Services)
WIC sites in Champaign and Rantoul
Head Start Program sites in Savoy, Champaign, Urbana, and Rantoul
Public Housing
Food Pantries
Community Centers
Libraries
Homeless Shelters
Churches
Schools
After School programs
Senior Citizen Centers
Youth Summer Camps

Champaign County FNP (FSNEP) staff members are certified in nutrition education. They include: Betty Armstrong, Jamie Kleiss, and Angela Reinhart.
