Helping farmers and the agricultural industry face the challenges of the farm economy has been the focus of our outreach programs.

Scouting techniques for Western Corn Rootworm were demonstrated to area farmers. Forty-five additional fields in Champaign County are monitoring this insect as a result of this workshop.

Low grain prices and the reduction of cash flow is affecting farm families. Rural Route 2 was initiated to help with financial concerns as well as family stress. Individual consultations were held with farm families.

Insect disease and weed identification skills were addressed at a scouting workshop. Crop growth and development along with scouting techniques were taught to farmers and area chemical supply businesses.

Crop insurance protection seminar discussed the various insurance programs available to farmers to use in their risk management plan.

Crop insurance agents received training to strengthen partnerships with other professionals in delivering risk management services to farmers.
