Special Opportunities
Bullying
Bullying is not just a phase or natural behavior. Bullying may lead to serious behavior problems. Yet, teachers and parents are often reluctant to intervene with bullying by either helping the bully or the victim. U of I Extension staff can provide workshops for teachers and parents on the subject of bullying . . . How to deal with the bully, how to help the victim, how to identify when bullying may be a problem, and how to create an environment that is bully-free.
Terrific Teachable Moments
This booklet contains immediate solutions for misbehavior in the classroom. It's the perfect compliment to Character Education. Gives teachers a quick response with hands-on, minds-on activities. A limited supply of books are available or a one-hour in-service can be scheduled to introduce Terrific Teachable Moments.

Conflict Resolution
Conflict is a natural part of life. It is how we handle that conflict that can make a difference. Unresolved conflict leads to stress, physical, and emotional problems. Learn ways to manage anger without a physical or verbal abuse. With a little effort, we can learn how to resolve conflict in a positive way! Designed for 7– 8 Graders.
Walk In My Shoes
Help your students become "senior friendly." Erase their fears of the elderly as they begin to understand the natural aging process using interactive activities.
Wonderwise
Through CD-Rom videos and activities, students explore science by "becoming" genetic counselors, vet detectives, space geologists, urban ecologists, and more! Extension staff will provide in-service training for teachers to show how to include Wonderwise in your science curriculum.

Curriculum for High School
Welcome to the Real World
An active, hands-on, real-life simulation that gives young people the opportunity to explore career opportunities, make life-style and budget choices similar to those adults face on a daily basis, and evaluate the choices they have made. Allow two 45 minute sessions or one 1-1/2 hour session to complete the process.
Understanding Illinois Local Government
This high school curriculum is designed to develop citizens who care about and contribute to their communities. By helping students discover how Illinois local governments solve the problems closest to us (such as good roads, strong schools, effective fire and police protection, and safe water supplies) we will build an informed citizenry ready to assume leadership roles in their communities. The curriculum offers a variety of hands-on activities for students. U of I Extension staff can provide an in-service for teachers and a teacher's manual and sets of student manuals will be provided.
