Who judged the best?

Congratualtions to Emily Moore, winner of the Jersey County 4-H Livestock Judging Contest, with a score of 291 points from a possible 300. She was followed by Kelsey and Sarah Moore who tied for second with 279 points, and Dennis Hartman and Garrett Meisner who tied for fourth place with 269 points.

Individual species winners were: Swine- Garret Meisner (96 points); Sheep- Sarah Moore and David Powell (100 points); Beef- Emily Moore and Sid Sarginson (100 points).

We had a great turnout and everyone did a really good job. For more results and photos look under the 4-H and Youth Section.

Want leadership?

Are you intersted in having fun and serving on a state leadership team?

The Illinois State 4-H Youth Leadership Team is currently accepting applications for next year. Application are due Auguest 1 for an interview at State Fair. Team members must be between 16 and 19 as of Sept. 1, 2006 and can serve until age 21. Each of the five regions in Illinois is represented by 3-5 members so this is a fantastic way to meet youth from other parts of the state.

Hungry?

Are you hungry? Doyou want to hang out with older 4-H members? Are you 12 years or older?

Calhoun-Jersey 4-H Federation will hold a cookout Tuesday, May 16at 5 p.m. at the Jersey County Fairgrounds Ag Pavillion in Jerseyville. Hot dogs, chips, soda and dessert will be provided. Come out for a good time and bring a friend.

The event will be before dog obiedience you can attend both with just one trip.

Have you looked at your showbook?

4-H showbooks were passed out last month so now is the time to start looking through them. You also want to make sure you're enrolled in the correct projects and the ones you intend to show. It's better to let us know in advance than to tell us on show day. Keep up the good work on your projects.

4-H Teams Up With Baseball's Grizzlies

Were you disappointed that you didn't get tickets for 4-H Day with the St. Louis Cardinals or are you looking for an opportunity to catch some summer baseball action with other 4-H members?

If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you. Extension staff have made arrangements for Southern Illinois 4-H Night with the Gateway Grizzlies on Saturday, August 19. The Gateway Grizzlies are a Frontier League Team that play in the GMC Stadium, just off I-255, near Sauget. If you have never participated in a Frontier League Team game, they are a blast! Plus that night is Hawaiian Lei Giveaway Night.

In addtion to the game, an optional picnic buffet is being offered at the ball park prior to the game. The buffet menu includes hot dogs, hamburgers, pulled pork, potato or pasta salad, baked beans, chips and Pepsi products.

Tickets are $8 and the picnic buffet is $6 for those 12 and under; or $9 for those 13 and over.
