Volunteer Opportunities

4-H and Youth Program

4-H is a voluntary, informal educational program for boys and girls ages 8-18. It was established at the turn of the century primarily for rural youth, but has expanded to incorporate youth from urban areas as well. The goal of 4-H is the development of youth as individuals and as responsible and productive citizens.

4-H Organization Leader: Individuals work with a group of youth on an annual basis. 4-H Clubs meet regularly and frequency is determined by the membership. There is an emphasis on leadership development and 'learning by doing' through selected projects and public speaking. Commitment includes 4-H leader training, attendance and support at club meetings, record keeping and reporting. Applicants should enjoy working with youth.

4-H Organization Leader: Youth ages 5-7 years old are involved in the 4-H Cloverbud program. If you would like to start a new Cloverbud group and volunteer as a leader, please contact us for more information.

4-H Project Exhibit Judges: During the 4-H Fair, these individuals review 4-Hers' projects using a project score sheet, assign blue, red or white rating to each project and discuss ratings with members. Commitment includes training and availability to work 2-6 hours at the Bureau County Fair scheduled the third week of July.

4-H Project Exhibit Superintendents: During the 4-H Fair, these individualshave the responsibility of the managment of each projectarea. They meet with the project exhibit judge (s) to review project rules and requirements and help to select projectsfor State Fair.

4-H Expansion & Review Committee: Volunteers serve as a resource in developing 4-H promotion plans, methods and procedures to insure all youth in Bureau County have access to the 4-H Youth Program.

4-H Fair Organization & Review Committee: Volunteers of this committee assist in the planning, organization, and implementation of the Bureau County 4-H Fair and related activities. Recommendations are made to the Unit Council.

4-H Fair Review Committee: Volunteers of this committee reviews the Bureau County4-H Fair schedule, activities, project areas, etc. on an annual basis in order to positively evolve with the changing needs of the Bureau County 4-H Program and enhance the overall fair operations for the coming year.
