Volunteer Opportunities

University of Illinois Extension provides practical, research-based information and programs to help individuals, families, farms, businesses and communities in Illinois. Its mission in short, is to help the citizens of Illinois put knowledge to work. The contribution of volunteers in the following areas is essential to the achievement of this mission.

More than 500 volunteers contribute their time and talents to the Extension program in Bureau County. Learn how you can help others with the knowledge and experiences gained from Extension education.

Volunteer opportunities with our office include:

  • 4-H and Youth Program
    4-H is a voluntary, informal educational program for boys and girls ages 8-18.

  • Bureau County Master Gardener Program
    Individuals who have an interest in learning more about gardening and would like to share their experience with their local communities are invited to join our Bureau County Master Gardener Program.

  • Extension Advisory Committees
    Volunteers of Advisory Committees are responsible for assisting Extension staff with the planning, implementing, and coordinating of University of Illinois Extension programs.

  • Family Life Education
    Family Life Education Volunteers will receive training and begin the important job of delivering specific education and wellness information in their own communities.

All volunteers working with youth are screened prior to undertaking assignments.
