Volunteer Opportunities

University of Illinois Extension provides practical, research-based information and programs to help individuals, families, farms, businesses and communities in Illinois. Its mission in short, is to help the citizens of Illinois put knowledge to work. The contribution of volunteers in the following areas is essential to the achievement of this mission. Please consider heping us put knowledge to work!

Volunteer opportunities with our office include:

  • 4-H Youth Development Program
Make a difference by working with area youth. 4-H is a voluntary, informal educational program for boys and girls ages 5-18.

  • Extension Council
The Council serves as an advisory board to Extension staff in determining program efforts.

  • Horticulture Volunteers
Love gardening? We need volunteers to help us care for the many community gardens in the area. These opportunities provide a great chance for you to help beautify our communities, learn more about gardening and spend time with others who love gardening too.

  • Master Gardeners
Adams/Brown Master Gardeners complete an intensive horticulture course and then provide volunteer service back to their communties through educational and community gardening projects.

All volunteers working with youth are screened prior to undertaking assignments.
