The Master Gardener Course
The Master Gardener training will be offered by University of Illinois Extension - Adams/Brown Unit again in January 2009.
The Master Gardener program provides over 60 hours of horticultural training provided by University of Illinois educators and specialists. The training is presented in a practical manner and is unbiased and research-based. Please see schedule in forms & downloads. As a trained Master Gardener you will be asked to volunteer at least 60 hours of service back to the community. Volunteering can be done through assisting with community gardening projects, presentations, answering residents questions and more. All volunteer projects must be approved by the Master Gardener Coordinator.
You will receive a comprehensive, two-volume manual that contains over 800 pages of information (including illustrations) on Botany, Soils, Plant Propagation, Pest Management, Disease Diagnosis, Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers, Woody Ornamentals, Landscaping, Grasses, Houseplants and more. The manual comes in two 3-ring binders with sectional tabs.
For an additional amount you can purchase a CD-ROM version of the training manual that consists of portable document format (PDF) files that can be read on Windows or Macintosh computers using Adobe Acrobat Reader software. All files on the CD-ROM are indexed and can be searched by keywords. The CD-ROM is optional and not required for the course.
