Tri-State Food Policy Council
A Food Policy Council (FPC) brings together citizens and officials to provide a comprehensive examination of a local food system. According to the Drake Agricultural Law Center this non-partisan form of civic engagement brings together a diverse group of food system stakeholders to develop local food and Ag policy recommendations. Councils can be sanctioned through government action or formed through a grassroots effort.
Food Policy Councils are innovative collaborations between citizens and officials which give voice to the concerns and interests of everyone in the food system from farmer to consumer. The primary goal of most FPCs is to examine the local food system and provide ideas and recommendations for improvement however some FPCs choose to focus on solutions to a specific topic, such as hunger or access to healthy local food.
