Overview and Screening Process
The objectives of the overview and screening process section are to describe the roles and responsibilities of a 4-H overnight chaperone, describe the Extension volunteer application and screening process and provide opportunities for adults to identify adult leadership roles in 4-H events and activities.
To serve as a 4-H overnight chaperone for any 4-H event or activity, an individual must successfully complete the University of Illinois Extension 4-H Youth Development Application and Screening Process. This process includes:
- Completion of the Extension Volunteer Application [English] [Spanish]
- Three Reference Checks - (personal/character, work/volunteer, and family) [English] [Spanish]
- Interview
- Department of Children and Family Services - Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System Check
- Illinois State Police Conviction Check
- Registered Sex Offender Registry Check
- Check of current driver’s license and proof of insurance (if driving is part of role)
- Agreement with the Volunteer Behavior Guidelines and Code of Conduct for 4-H Events/Activities
- Completion of the Chaperone Orientation Online Program.
